Siraj Taj

Principal, ST Power Services

A sought-after power generation industry consultant and thought leader, Siraj Taj has leveraged more than 30 years in the power generation industry into his latest pursuit: Helping power plant owners prepare for the future. As the Principal of ST Power Services, Siraj and his team focus on guiding clients through critical business decisions and processes, such as LTSA negotiations, asset performance management, and developing cost-effective O&M strategy. Key to these services is Siraj's focus on expertly integrating Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Conventional Power Systems (CPS). The upshot of this approach empowers plant owners to achieve life-cycle cost savings of 35%+ with robust maintenance program. Most recently, Siraj led the upgrade of several GT control systems to increase plant reliability and profitability that operates GT7EA, W501D5A, LM6000, and others. These plants are critical to maintaining the power system stability while supporting energy market transformation. Prior to founding ST Power Services in 2016, Siraj served many roles at Alstom Power, including Contract Manager and Director of GT/CC Service Operation for Russia & CIS Countries. He also serves as a council member on the Gerson Lehrman Group, contributes to the development of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, contributes to POWER magazine, and regularly shares his thought leadership through his popular "Thinking Power" blog. Siraj looks forward to the opportunity to serve as a panelist at Electric Power 2019 for "Western Energy Markets: Meeting the Challenge of Charting a New Course." "Power generators are being asked to embrace renewable energy, with states adopting ambitious carbon-free and carbon-neutral goals, while utilities must maintain grid reliability and resiliency as the energy market transform," Siraj said of the panel. "California will lead the transition with its careful and deliberate legislation (SB100) to produce and consume 100% carbon free energy by 2045," he added. "It requires a pragmatic strategy with a clearly defined roadmap to a) lead the transition to a low carbon grid, b) reliably manage the grid during the transition, and c) regionalize the Western energy network to balance over-generation. I look forward to an informative and productive discussion with a team of energy industry experts."
